Tight Fit Theatre end the summer with our Summer Project 2004; what is essentially a devised production in a week for ages 8 to 16. Our Artistic Director, Mark Oldknow says ”We aim to give the participants a grounding in stagecraft as well as create a piece of theatre, more or less from scratch.•
The model for the Tight Fit Theatre summer school has had little alteration in its seven years. Each day is spent working toward the production whilst acquiring new skills, or revising old ones. ”We spend time on most of the disciplines which can be taken back into the classroom or theatre group.•
The spread of age is quite wide, but the young people are sub-grouped into age bands for most of the week; coming together for final rehearsals and performance. The performance piece, at the culmination of the week‘s workshops and classes, is unique to that group as the component parts are devised by the participants. ”We try to develop an environment where creativity is the watchword and where they feel safe to take risk without fear of ridicule.• says Mark, ”The final show has always had moments of pure theatre magic.•
Before you take the plunge and enrol, you may want to look at earlier Summer Projects' web pages including a description of what we get up to with some photos. Tight Fit Theatre's Summer Projects have been held in 1997 , 1998 , and 1999 , 2002 and 2003. (They used to be called Summer Schools)
